Poor Pookie. New Mexico was not good to her, and she didn’t have a good time there.
Between Mrs. Dash and a feral cat that the RV park owners were never able to catch, Pookie was under constant harassment and even had to go to the hospital for some injuries that the feral gave her.
Plus, I made a terrible, terrible mistake that hurt her.
I have posted here previously that she had a very bad problem with her fur getting matted. It would get so tangled that I couldn’t get it untangled, and at this juncture in my saga, it had been about a year since her fur had been professionally trimmed.
I decided to try cutting one of the fur-lumps off with scissors.
Bad, BAD idea! Cats have very loose skin, and her mats went all the way down to her skin. The scissors cut into her skin.
After which I took her to a professional groomer to finish giving her a fur trim. Here is what she looked like afterward, with the “owie” that I gave her:
I have been ashamed of that injury ever since.
She never complained about it, and it soon healed. Here’s another shot of her, outside prowling the grounds after her fur trim:
And here’s a shot of her chillin’ on the camp chair outside the motorhome.
She liked to hang out on my camp chair. So I bought a second, cheap camp chair for her to use so we could sit out there side by side. She preferred THIS one, the expensive, good camp chair. That cat.
A couple of weeks later, I took a phone shot of her sitting on a folded towel on the bed. The combination of her recent fur trim and the distortion of the phone’s wide-angle lens made a hilarious shot that made her look some kind of legless cat-worm from outer space:
Larry Niven actually imagined such a creature in his sci-fi novel A World Out of Time.
She didn’t seem to mind staying inside. She was such a devoted companion, that as long as she was with me, she was happy. Here she is lying on the bed, just looking out the motorhome’s rear window.
Best kittty I ever had.
A sweet puppy cat.
Oh yes, Servo is still with us. He’s 12 years old now. He does more sleeping than when he was younger but can still cause a bit of mischief.
