The pioneers called them “Faith,” “Hope” and “Charity” which comes from a verse in the Bible. I think that they are named from north to south. In this view from the west, that’s left to right.
These three volcanoes (not extinct! The South Sister is getting ready to blow again) cross a line that runs across the middle of Oregon. You see them from Eugene and you see the other side of them, really well, from Bend. Portland never sees them.
I lived in Eugene. I was 51 years old. And, after all these years, I finally had a Nikon. I was so happy. And I was going out shooting, constantly.
Fall was falling, and there was new snow up in the Cascades. My Little Guy and I had recently discovered a “secret” viewpoint near an old fire lookout. I went up there to get this shot.
OK, it’s not much of a secret. This viewpoint is at the Carpenter Mountain trailhead; 44º 16.609’ N 122º 8.178’ W. You drive up the McKenzie River to get there.
There isn’t much of a story to tell here about my feelings as I was shooting this, except that it always feels good to be in the mountains, with a camera that is capable of professional work. There is a story about my Bridezilla cousin (see previous post), who told me years later that a framed print of this, that I had given her mother, kept her sane during her first stretch in prison. I guess they let girl criminals hang pictures on the wall of their cell. But you probably didn’t want to hear about that.
