I'm having issues running Photoshop 6 on my Windoze 11 box, however ImageReady works fine. This got me to thinking about GIMP. I recently inherited a few relatively new laptops and want to convert one of them to LINUX, but I would prefer to have someone familiar with it be my guide, and you are JUST the man. If you are interested, I'll call you soon and set up a plan.
Oh, by the way, very nice photography and story, I really like it when you include an enlarged image.
Too bad you can’t make your way over here for a visit. I have CS 6 on my Mac (I have to use an old OS ‘coz it won’t run on the newer Mac OSes) and I have several Linux virtual machines, all of which have GIMP on them.
Since everyone’s workflow is different, you could bring some of your images on a thumb drive and work on them in GIMP and in Photoshop, and compare the results.
CS 6 is getting long in the tooth. It might be that it just doesn’t work on the newest version of ‘doze.
What is your camera setup? Great pics & geology lesson as usual.
Nikon D3, all-Nikon glass. Photoshop CS 6, because I refuse to rent my software.

If you’re accustomed to CS 6, you’re going to find GIMP disappointing.
I see. Well, we will have to chat about it when I have the time. Thank you.

Also, you could try a bunch of different versions of Linux here, and see which one agrees with you the best.
That’s one of the problems with windows. The error messages are absolutely unusable. They don’t tell you anything.
